VII, Part 7: Philadelphia // Jamie Nunnally

Of the seven churches in Revelation, the smallest church with “little strength” was the one Jesus had no correction for. In the message, Lead Pastor Jamie shares about the letter to the church of Philadelphia.

Revelation 3:7 NLT

Isaiah 22:22 NLT

Keys grant access. Jesus alone can give access to the Kingdom of God.

Revelation 3:8 NLT

In the kingdom, obedience is the measure of success.

Revelation 3:9 NLT

John 8:44 NLT

Isaiah 60:14 NIV

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is nothing.

When God is your defender, you don’t have to be.

Revelation 3:10 NLT

The Christian life is not about avoiding pressure, but remaining faithful under pressure. Because ultimately, it’s pressure that reveals the purity of our faith.

Revelation 3:11 – 12a NLT

All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it.

Jesus is saying: “I know life may feel unstable now, but in my kingdom you will be a permanent fixture.”

Revelation 3:12b NLT

Rome put political leaders’ names on it’s cities; Jesus puts His name on people.

What are the timeless truths for us in this letter, and how can we respond to what Jesus has revealed?

1. God’s love for you is not defined by your circumstances.

This is an important truth to understand: what’s happening around you is not an accurate reflection of how God feels about you.

Bad days are not evidence of a bad God.

Romans 8:35 NLT

Circumstances are temporary, but God’s love is permanent. Don’t confuse the two.

2. God is impressed with endurance more than strength.

Endurance is faith that refuses to quit.

Anyone can start a race, but it takes persistence to finish.

Hebrews 10:36 NLT

Faith isn’t proven by enthusiasm; it’s proven by endurance.

It’s the reliable Christian, not the loudest Christian that makes the most difference.

3. God builds doors out of what life destroyed.

God has a habit of doing something amazing with what everyone else has abandoned.

Joseph’s life was destroyed by his family’s betrayal—but God turned it into a doorway to save a nation.

Genesis 50:20 NLT

We see this all throughout scripture. Sometimes the place where everything fell apart becomes the doorway to something new.

God is really good at taking what looks like rubble and turning it into redemption.

Closing

Sometimes God allows the old structure to collapse so He can build something stronger. What seems damaged today may be the foundation for something greater tomorrow.

Isaiah 61:4 ESV

So if your life feels shaken right now—don’t quit and don’t drift. God may be making room for something bigger than you ever imagined.

Are you being tempted to quit when God is calling you to endure?
