Elephants in the Room part 2: Christians and Politics

Elephants in the Room part 2: Christians and Politics

Elephants in the Room: where we tackle sensitive subjects and taboo topics that no one likes to talk about.

God’s government supersedes man’s government.

1. The political process is not the answer to this world’s problems. Isaiah 9:6

The problem with our world is sin, and the solution to that sin problem is not government – its God.

A Christian’s job is not to connect others to their politics but to connect others to their King.

2. The church must not choose sides. 2 Timothy 2:4

If you find that God always agrees with your political opinions, your political opinions are your God.

How you talk about politics affects the kingdom of God.

1. Unity among the church is to be guarded at all costs.

Galatians 3:26-28

Wear your Jesus jersey. Prioritize him over all other labels, including political ones.

2. Politicizing the gospel turns people away from the gospel.  John 17:21

Church, this is our time to be different than the world – we must demonstrate disagreement without disrespect. Value the person even if you don’t value the opinion. Eternity hangs in the balance.

How should a Christian vote?

1. You should be informed and involved. Matthew 22:21

2. Vote in the way that best allows you to practice your faith. 1 Timothy 2:2-4
