Who needs to grow up? We all do!
In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares how we can grow up as believers as we walk in the fruit of the Spirit.
What is the fruit of the Spirit?
The fruit of the Spirit are the various positive character traits displayed in the life of a believer, that are the result of an ongoing, healthy relationship with God.
The Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
Christians are expected to grow up.
1 Corinthians 13:11
Just because God loves us, doesn’t mean He won’t instruct us. Because God cares about you, he cares about what you do. It is bizarre to think God can live inside one person, not live inside another person, yet the two people act the same!
Fruit that helps us grow up:
- Goodness.
Goodness is moral virtue, uprightness, and excellence of character.
Ephesians 5:8-10
If you’re a Christian and sin is increasing while goodness is decreasing, there’s a problem.
Ephesians 2:10
Living a life of goodness is not about improving who we are but, about discovering who God is. As we fix our eyes on Him, we’ll focus less on ourselves and do the good things He’s called us to do.
- Faithfulness.
Faithfulness is confident trust that results in loyalty and reliability. When you’re full of faith, you’ll be faith-full. People who are unfaithful lost faith in their relationship. Your trust causes you to be trustworthy and your faith causes you to be you faithful.
Luke 16:10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”
Faithfulness is a fruit, not a feeling.
2 Timothy 2:2
Faithful people share their faith. - Self-control.
Self-control is the ability to manage your appetites and emotions.
Prov. 25:28 “A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.”
1 Cor. 9:27
Are you bearing the fruit of the Spirit that helps you grow up?
