How is your emotional health? Scripture has a lot to say about this topic. Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares how you can become emotionally healthy.
- You are a three-part being: spirit, soul and body.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
Your emotional health has to do with your soul, but is affected by your body and spirit. - You are responsible for your own soulcare.
Matthew 16:26
How you have fed your soul will determine your amount of emotional reserves, and that will determine how well you handle uncomfortable environments and situations.
Psalm 23:3 “He restores my soul.” - Emotions are not bad.
Feelings are meant to be felt. Ecclesiastes 3:4
Emotions are an indicator that something is different that expected. Jesus was emotional. Luke 10:21
Acts 18:25 Apollos was emotional AND intellectual. - Emotions must be measured and monitored.
Measured: You have to learn the art of thinking while you’re feeling.
Ephesians 4:26 “Be angry and do not sin.” NLT: “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” TPT: “don’t let the passion of your emotions lead you to sin.”
Prov. 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” NLT: “Guard your heart above all else.” TPT: “Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being.”
Emotional suppression leads to emotional aggression. If you don’t talk it out with a friend, you’ll take it out on a friend. - Healthy Christians confess and express their emotions.
Confess to God: 1 John 1:9
Confess to one another: James 5:16
Live with your feelings, but don’t live by your feelings.
