Are you struggling with doubt? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally describes how you can disarm doubt and walk in hope. Hope is the confident, patient expectation that something good is going to happen.
Doubt is uncertainty rooted in fear, pain or discouragement.
Doubt is not a lack of belief; it is a wrong belief.
We are all susceptible to doubt.
But since doubt is uncertainty rooted in fear, pain or discouragement, certain people more susceptible to doubt:
- Deep thinkers, intellectuals: FEAR of being wrong/not knowing.
- People wounded by church: PAIN
- People who’ve been through trauma: DISCOURAGEMENT
How does God feel about our doubt?
John 20:19-29
Jesus doesn’t criticize doubt, He cures doubt. You’re not morally inferior if your struggle with doubt; you simply believe the wrong thing and need to be healed from the fear,
pain or discouragement that is the source of it.
Disarm doubt by embracing faith.
Faith is not mental certainty. Faith is trust, powered by relationship, and evidenced by action.
James 2:26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
Luke 17:5-6 “The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.” 6The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you!
It’s not about the amount of faith you have, it;s about the amount of faith you use.
How do we reconcile faith and doubt?
Mark 9:24 – I believe; help my unbelief!”
Profess your faith, confess your doubt, possess your promise.
