Power Up Part 3: Power in the Name of Jesus

Names, are they important? Is “Jesus” the magic word? What was Jesus’ last name? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares biblical insight about the power found in the name of Jesus.

Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”What is Jesus’ name?
Yeshua in Hebrew (Joshua), Iēsoûs in Greek (Jesus)The names means “Jehovah is salvation”
Mashiach in Hebrew (Messiah), Christos in Greek (Christ)

Using the name of Jesus is not magic.
John 14:13-14 “You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!”

When you do something in Jesus’ name you are doing it in His authority, His ability and His attitude.

Praying in Jesus name is not as much about the words you use when you pray, but the nearness of your heart to His when you pray. If it’s not about His purpose and His power, it’s not in His name.

The name of Jesus provides:

  1. Access.
Hebrews 4:15-16 “This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

John 16:23-24 “At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.”

  1. Power.
Acts 4:7-10 “They brought in the two disciples and demanded, “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?”Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.”

Luke 10:17 “When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!”

  1. Salvation.
Acts 4:12 “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

John 14:6 “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
