There are some things that you need to know about the devil and demons.
Who is the devil?
The devil was originally an angel. (Ezekiel 28:12-15)
Lucifer (“light-bearer”) – possibly His original angelic name before he fell. (Isaiah 14:13)
Satan – Hebrew for “adversary or opponent”
Devil – Greek for “slanderer or accuser”
4 Things to Know About the Devil:
- The world is under the influence of the devil.
1 John 5:19 – “the world is under the control of the evil one”
John 12:31 – “prince [ruler] of the word”
Ephesians 2:2 – “the prince of the power of the air” - The devil’s weapons are deception, accusation, and temptation.
2 Cor. 11:4;Rev. 12:10; 1 Thessalonians 3:5; John 8:44 - He has already been defeated.
Colossians 2:15; Luke 10:18.
Satan can only do to you what you give him permission to do to you. - Resist him and he will leave.
James 4:7; Ephesians 4:27.
What are demons?
Demons, also called unclean or evil spirits in scripture, are created supernatural beings that used to be angels that willfully followed Lucifer during his rebellion.
Revelation 12:3-4,9; Ephesians 6:12
What do demons do?
- Cause sickness, physical disability, and mental illness. Mark 9:17-29 – the boy with seizures/epilepsy; Luke 13:11-13; Luke 8:27-35
- Spread false theology.
1 Timothy 4:1 - Try to convince us to sin.
James 3:15 - Represent false gods.
1 Corinthians 10:20 - Assist people in witchcraft and the occult. Acts 16:16
- Stop the advance of the Kingdom of God.

3 Things to Know About Demons:
- Unbelievers can be possessed by demons.
Mark 5:2-5 - Believers can be oppressed by demons.
Matt. 16:23“get behind me Satan”
Acts 10:38“…healing all who were oppressed by the devil.” - Believers can cast out demons in the name of Jesus.
