Does your passion for Jesus affect others? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares how you can be a contagious Christian.
What is a Christian?
A Christian is a person whose belief in Jesus causes them to follow Him, cultivate a relationship with Him, and apply His teaching to their life until they begin to look like Jesus.
Contagious Christians
A contagious Christian is a believer whose passion for Jesus overflows onto the people around them and ignites their faith.
You are contagious.
Whatever is in you is being spread by you and its getting on others around you.
You will infect others. Will you contaminate them or medicate them?
How to be a contagious Christian:
- Be a matchmaker .
Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Don’t try to convert people to a system of beliefs or get them to agree with your values. Introduce them to Jesus and help encourage the relationship.
Don’t make converts, make disciples. - Be full of grace and love.
Colossians 4:5-6 “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
Too many Christians are full of salt and seasoned with grace. That’s backwards.
James 1:20 “the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”
You can’t argue someone into the kingdom. You can’t criticize someone into being Christlike. - Don’t be a spiritual know-it-all.
1 Corinthians 8:1-2 “Now regarding your question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes, we know that ‘we all have knowledge’ about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church. Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much.”
One translation says “Knowledge puffs up, love builds up.”
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 “When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.”
As a Christian, your goal isn’t to know everything—just to know Jesus.
